What is a patch test and do I have to take one?
A patch test is what Beauty Technicians and Hair Stylists do for their clients to determine whether or not they might be allergic to certain products. Patch tests are quite important and are insisted upon for first time treatments that involve certain products. Not all treatments will require one but if you are asked to undergo a patch test first, the treatment cannot be performed if the patch test is denied.
What if I have an allergic reation to the treatment/ products?
Usually we will ask you to take a patch test before any first time treatments that might require one, to be sure that you won't have an allergic reation to the products being used. If you have a severe allergic reaction to the patch test, we recommend that you seek medical help immediately. If you have no allergic reaction to the patch test, but somehow begin to feel discomfort, pain or a reaction of some sort during the treatment, we ask that you consult your Technician immediately so that the treatment can be stopped. The area of pain or discomfort will be quickly examined and your Technician will inform you of its severity, letting you know if the treatment simply needs to be halted or if you need to seek immediate medical help.
Nails
What is a Gel Manicure?
This ia a manicure that includes Gel Polish. Gel polish is cured under a UV lamp after application to the nails. After this, your nails are pretty much dry and you're ready to go. Gel manicures also last longer than a classic manicure.
How long does a manicure last?
A classic manicure could last from 7-10 days, but this depends on lifestyle and how often your hands are being used.
A gel manicure could last from 2-3 weeks, but again, this depends on your lifestyle.
What should I know/do before a manicure or pedicure?
You don't really need to prepare for a manicure or pedicure. Just show up and let us take care of your nails for you.
Lashes
How long do lash extensions last?
Lash extensions usually last between 5 and 6 weeks. The extensions are attatched to the lashes and will last for the duration of the lash growth cycle, which for the most part, lasts between 5 and 6 weeks. However this does depend on how fast the lashes may grow for the individual, as everyone is different. If you are looking to continually keep your lashes fresh, you can book an 'Infill Treatment' around 3-4 weeks after the first treatment.
Can lash extensions be applied to the bottom lashes?
Lash extensions can be applied to the bottom lashes, but that is unfortunately not something that we offer here at J-Beauty.
What are Hybrid Lashes?
Hybrid Lash extensions are a combination of two techniques and two types of lash extensions - Classic individual and Volume extensions. They are essentially the best of both, providing you with both volume and length.
How long does a Lash Tint last?
A lash tint will lasht between 5 and 6 weeks. This tends to depend on how long it takes for your lashes to grow through their cycle. For the most part, this is around 6 weeks, but could change since everyone is different.
Will Lash Extensions or a Lash Tint damage my lashes?
Neither Lash Tint or Lash Extensions can really damage your lashes if done properly by a professional Technician and if done in moderation. Getting Lash Tint treatments done once every 5 to 6 weeks runs hardly any risks of damaging your lashes. And getting Lash Infills means that new extensions are applied to fresh lashes.
Our lashes have a growth cycle that runs around 6 weeks for most individuals. This means that waiting around this length of time to get another treatment would see a whole new set of lash hairs.
You can ask your Technician at J-Beauty for more specific details if needed.
Can I get my lashes wet after gettting Lash Extensions or a Lash Tint?
For a Lash Tint, we recommend not letting water or moisture touch the lashes for about 24 hours after the treatment. And at least 48 hours before a full face submersion into water, especially swimming.
For Lash Extensions, we recommend that you avoid getting your new lashes wet for at least 48 hours to keep them safe.
What should I know/do before a Lash treatment?
- If you have any extensions on, but want a Lash Lift or Tint, you will need to have them removed at least 3 days before. We are more than happy to do that for you here a J-Beauty. Just book your appointment for Lash Removal at least 3 days before you book in for a Lift or Tint.
- We recommend not using Waterproof Mascara at least 1 week before any lash treatments, if possible.
- Try to avoid curing your eye lashes for at least 24 hours before any lash treatments.
- Please do not wear any eye make-up on the day of your appointment. (No eyeshadow, eye liner, mascara, and try to avoid wearing concealer and primer around the eyes as well) Make-up could hinder the process for the Technician but also would need to be removed at the end of the day, which could ruin the lash treatment.
- We also recommend washing your hair prior to your appointment if at all possible. You may have to avoid doing so for 48 hours after all lash treatments.
Brows
How often should I get my eyebrows waxed?
If you wish to continually wax your eyebrows, we suggest that you get them waxed every 3-4 weeks.
Does it hurt to get your eyebrows waxed?
Everyone handles pain differently, so we can not efficiently answer this question. Some people claim that it hurts a lot, while others say that it's not so bad. From our opinion, we would say that it isn't too painful, more uncomfortable, but it is over quickly. If it is your first time and you're worried about the pain, feel freet to speak to your Technician at J-Beauty about your worries beforehand.
What are Henna Brows and how long do they last?
Henna Brow Treatment is brow dying that uses natural dye from the Henna tree. It coats the brow hair with colour rather than chemically changing the hair colour.
Henna dye on the skin can last for around 1-2 weeks, depending on the client's skin type.
However on the eyebrow hairs, the dye can last around 4-6 weeks.
How long after the Henna treatment can I get my Brows
wet?
We recommend not getting your eyebrows wet for at least 12 hours after the treatment. Exfoliating or harsh scrubbing to the brows will also cause the Henna to fade faster.
What should I know/do before a Brow treatment?
Please make sure that you arrive with a clean face, free of any oils, moistures and make up around the brow area. We recommend not wearing any eye shadow either (mascara and eyeliner is fine.)
Waxing
How many days before waxing can I shave?
You should wait around 10 days - 2 weeks after shaving (depending on how fast your hair grows) before you get a wax. THe hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip it. This is around 1/4 - 1/2 an inch long for the best results.
Do you use soft wax or hard wax?
Here at J-Beauty, we use both soft wax and hard wax. The Technician will use what they deem best for the type of hair or the part of the body that is being waxed. However, if you specifically wish to have a certain type of wax used only, feel free to speak your concerns to the Technician.
Does waxing hurt?
Not to sugar coat it... yes. Waxing can be painful, but the level of pain depends on many factors, including the part of the body that is being waxed, whether it is your first time or you are a regular and your own pain threshold. Some people can easily tolerate the pain, while others struggle. If you are worried about it hurting too much, you can take some pain killers before the treatment or feel free to contact J-Beauty beforehand for other advice.
How often should I get a wax?
The amount of time between treatments depends on the individual and how fast your hair grows. Everyone is different, so we cannot give time accurate answers, but we can give general suggestions.
Face - Can be waxed every 2-3 weeks.
Arms and Legs - Can be waxed every 3-5 weeks.
Bikini - Can be waxed every 2-3 weeks.
Underarms - Can be waxed every 2 weeks.
Can I shave between Wax treatments?
We do not recommend shaving between waxes unless absolutely necessary. Regular wax treatments slow down and reduce the hair growth. This forces the hair to grow back thinner, making it easier and less painful to remove the next time. Shaving between treatments can negate this, putting you back to stage one of waxing. It can also irritate the follicles, which can cause ingrown hairs.
What can I do to sooth my skin after a wax?
There are a few things that you can do to sooth your skin after a wax treatment. The Technician at J-Beauty will apply a lotion to waxed area after the treatment, but if you wish to continue this at home, the best products are cooling lotions like Aloe Vera or Witch Hazel. You can also take a cool shower. We do not recommend using coconut oil, however. Feel free to ask your Technician for any more advice before or after your treatment.
What should I know/do before a Wax treatment?
- Let your hair grow out to a good length. (1/4 - 1/2 Inch for best results)
- Exfoliate beforehand to expose any hidden hairs.
- Plan your outfit accordingly and try not to wear anything too tight fitting.
- For a Bikini/Hollywood, please try not to book around your time of the month.
Facials
What is LED Light Therapy?
LED Light Therapy is a painless and non-invasive skin treatment. The face will be exposed to different coloured LED lights during your treatment, each colour being used for a different purpose.
Is the treatment painful?
It is not. You may experience some discomfort during certain parts of the facial treatment, however the LED lights themselves are completely painless and quite relaxing.
How often should I get LED Light Therapy facials?
The LED Therapy itself is completely non-invasive and therefore requires no recovery time. However it does come with a full facial, which does require recovery time. We recommend getting a facial every 3-4 weeks.
What should I know/do before a facial Treatment?
- Avoid any strong facial treatments at home about a week before your appointment. This includes intense exfoliation.
- Try to stay out of the strong and direct sunlight or tanning beds at least 3 days before your appointment.
- Come with a make-up free face.
Massages
What can I expect from a Deep Tissue, Swedish and Hot Stones Massage?
Deep Tissue
You can expect a Deep Tissue massage to work out the knots from stressed, overworked muscles and connective tissue to alleviate immediate pain, as well as chronic joint and muscle pain. The Therapist will use slow strokes and deep finger pressure to relieve tension from the deepest layers of your muscles and connective tissues.
Swedish
You can expect a Swedish massage to be lighter on the touch than a Deep Tissue. The Therapist will use softer strokes on the bonier and more delicate parts of the body, and a little harder on the muscles. A Swedish will warm up the muscle tissue to slowly and gradually release tension and break up any knots.
Hot Stones
You can expect a Hot Stones massage to involve a variety of long strokes and techniques using heated stones and hands, working over kinks in your muscles. You are unlikely to feel the intensity, since your muscles will be relaxed by the heat of the stones.
Will any of the Massages hurt?
A Deep Tissue massage shouldn't hurt but can be uncomfortable. This can depend on the individual, how the tolerate pain and the intensity of any muscles knots. It is the Therapists job to work out the knots and release the tension they hold, which can feel like a 'good pain'. You will be asked before the treatment, what level of intensity you would like your massage to be. If at any point you experience pain that you can not handle, please let your Therapist know immediately. They will assess the situation and can either ease up on the pressure or stop working completely.
A Swedish massage shouldn't hurt, nor should it be uncomfortable. It is on the softer side of a massage and your Therapist will cater to the level of intensity you request before the session. Again, if you feel any pain, please let your Therapist know immediately.
A Hot Stones massage should not hurt you. The heat of the stones may be uncomfortable for some who do not like too much heat. If at any point you experience pain, or if the stones are too hot for you, please tell your Therapist immediately.
What should I know/do before a Massage?
- Before and especially after any massage, you should stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. If you would like water after your massage, please feel free to ask your J-Beauty Therapist.
- Avoid drinking alcohol before, as this can dehydrate you.
- It's good to take a warm shower before a massage (if possible) to warm up your muscles.

What is a Brazilian Bum Lift?
A non-surgical Brazilian Bum Lift is a safe and non-invasive way to lift and sculpt the shape of the bum. Using our specialist equipment, focused heating causes the contraction of the fibres in your bum, resulting in an immediate tightening of your skin in this area.
Does a Brazilian Bum Lift hurt?
